Maricopa County Board of Supervisors say Diamondbacks can leave Chase Field as early as 2022

By a 4-to-1 vote, the Maricopa County Board of Supervisors said the Arizona Diamondbacks can leave Chase Field in Downtown Phoenix as early as 2022, if they drop a lawsuit against the County to fix up the ballpark.

If the team decides to move, there are three possible locations to relocate: I-17 and Loop 303 in the Northwest Valley, Salt River Fields, located on tribal land near Scottsdale, and 7th Street and Buchanan, near where Chase Field is currently.

Fans who were buying tickets at Chase Field on Wednesday sounded off on the potential move.

"Downtown is in the middle of everything, that is where you are supposed to be, that is where we live, right?" said one man, identified only as "Dave".

Another fan, Vikki Noel, said she likes coming downtown, and said she prefers the team to stay in Downtown, and not leave.

"I would prefer they don't, but if that's what they've got to do, I will still come see them," said Noel.

Meanwhile, the Managing General Partner for the Diamondbacks, Ken Kendrink, released a statement on the vote.
