Maricopa firefighter revives family cat after house fire

MARICOPA, Ariz. (KSAZ) - Maricopa Fire and Medical responded to a house fire on West Maricopa Avenue Sunday morning.

Firefighters battled a kitchen fire with moderate smoke.

Officials say most in the home were able to get out, and one bed-ridden victim was transported for smoke inhalation.

There were several pets in the home, including a cat.

Engineer David Maas pulled out the 'Fido Kit' and was able to give the cat oxygen, fully reviving the cat and returning him to his owner.

Maricopa Fire says 'Fido Kits' are kits they carry with specially made masks for cats and dogs. The masks work with the animal's snout in the same way a regular mask works with a person's face and nose.
