MCSO arrests 102 in heroin crackdown

- MCSO deputies are cracking down on heroin, and Sheriff Arpaio says they seized 53 pounds of the drug and arrested 102 dealers.

Valley emergency rooms are seeing a spike in heroin overdose patients, and the trend is getting worse and worse.

Doctors say a combination of the ease of addiction and the ease of getting heroin here in the valley is contributing to the problem.

There's no typical face of a heroin addict these days, from affluent teenagers to the chronically homeless. Heroin has consumed the lives of people from all corners of society.

Recent data from the Arizona Department of Health Services shows that 1,052 people required emergency room treatment for prescription drug overdoses in 2014. That number is up from 1,018 in the previous year. Heroin overdoses increased from 521 in 2013 to 605 in 2014.

Valley law enforcement is cracking down on heroin dealers. The Maricopa County Sheriff's Office arrested 102 people for dealing the drug and sized over $6 million worth of drugs. It was all part of "Operation No Drug Bust Too Small."
