MCSO: Man with dementia missing from Mesa home has been found

Maricopa County Sheriff's Office is asking for the public's help with locating John Richard Shackelford.

Shackelford was last seen Friday night at 6:30 p.m. at his Mesa residence when his caretaker left. She returned to his residence at 7:30 a.m. on Saturday to find that he was not home.

The caretaker told deputies she is worried because he has dementia and he left his home without his walking cane.

He does not have access to a vehicle and is believed to be on foot.

Shackelford has never wandered off before, according to the caretaker. He is described to have a shuffle in his step when he walks and he is prone to falling.

Shackleford lives near University Drive and 56th Street in Mesa.

He is described as a white, 85-year-old man. He has white hair and brown eyes. He's 5 foot 8 inches tall and weighs 169 pounds. He was last seen wearing a yellow T-shirt, grey pants and brown shoes.

He left his wallet with his ID, debit and credit cards inside. Deputies have already checked surrounding hospitals, stores and recreational centers with no success.

If you have any information on Shackleford's whereabouts, please call the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office at (602) 876-1011.
