Officials with the Maricopa County Sheriff's Office said Thursday that tips from the community led to the arrest of a 29-year-old man, in connection with a burglary incident at a massage parlor in Sun City.
According to a statement released Thursday afternoon, Keith Benavidez, Jr. surrendered to authorities at his home on the 110 block of E. Indian School Road, without incident, as MCSO detectives served a search warrant at the home.
The incident, according to MCSO, happened during the early morning hours of December 14. Benavidez, according to officials, was seen, on surveillance camera, kicking open a locked door at the massage parlor. Inside, officials said Benavidez confronted an employee who responded to the noise. The employee reportedly left the business unharmed, and Benavidez allegedly stole nearly $805 worth of items, including an iPhone, cash, and a day planner containing a spare car key.
A video of the incident, according to officials, was released to local media outlets on December 21, and detectives then received an anonymous tip that identified Benavidez as the suspect. Benavidez, according to the tipster, bragged about the incident.
Benavidez, according to officials, was also wanted on an outstanding warrant for failing to appear on a criminal damage charge in Mesa. He is reportedly being charged with a count of 3rd-degree burglary and unlawful entry, and a count of criminal damage.
