MCSO: Two killed in DUI crash on Buckeye Rd.

Two people are dead in a car crash that shut down Buckeye Road and Avondale Boulevard on Sunday morning, and a suspected drunk driver is now facing murder charges.

Investigators are calling the accident one of the worst rear-end collision they have ever seen.

Deputies say three cars were involved in the deadly crash, which happened around 5:30 a.m. The two people who were killed in the accident have been identified as 21-year-old Jesus Torrez and 19-year-old Guadalupe Gastelum-Suarez.

MCSO deputies say 23-year-old Cesar Villanueva was driving a white Toyota Tundra and was speeding while heading south on Avondale Blvd., when he crashed into the back of a Honda four-door passenger car.

The Honda was ripped apart from the force of the collision, and both people inside the passenger vehicle were killed in the crash.  Villanueva's passenger was not hurt.

Deputies have detained Villanueva for signs of impairment. They say speeding was also a factor in the deadly crash.

Deputy Joaquin Enriquez, a spokesperson for MCSO, says Villanueva is now two counts of manslaughter and two counts of endangerment.

Enriquez says charges may be upgraded to second degree murder when investigators determine how fast the truck driver was going.

The crash has shut down Buckeye Road in the area of Avondale Blvd. from Mariposa to Durango.  Drivers have been advised to avoid the area while deputies investigate.
