MESA, Ariz. (KSAZ) - Thanksgiving is just a month away, but a Mesa family is already very grateful, after they get a new car.
The new car couldn't have come at a better time for Army veteran Christopher Harris.
"It's totally mind-blowing to receive a car to help my family out, as I go through cancer treatments," said Harris.
Harris has a weight lifted from his shoulder on Thursday, as he got inside his new car.
"It's gonna help out a lot, for my wife to be able to take me to my treatments," said Harris.
Harris has has served in the Army since 2008, and he has been on the ground in Afghanistan and Iraq. He served until he literally couldn't serve anymore.
In July, Harris was stopped by stage 4 lung cancer, and for the past several months, Harris' wife has worked tirelessly to get him to cancer treatments
"I would get up at 2:30 in the morning to take my sister to work," said Harris' wife, who said she needed to borrow her sister's car to get Harris to his cancer treatments. Life was getting difficult, and transportation was a struggle, as they worked to battle Harris' cancer.
When the Mesa Chamber's veterans program learned of their story, they new they had to help.
"Makes me feel a lot better," said Harris. "Takes a big portion of the stress off my wife."
