Mesa police identify victims, suspect in murder-suicide

MESA, Ariz. (KSAZ) - Mesa police have identified the victims and suspect in a murder-suicide at an apartment complex.

Steve Berry, a spokesman with the Mesa Police Department, says when officers responded to the El Rancho del Arte Apartments near Horne and Main Street, they found the body of 23-year-old Chelsey Anderson.

Thirty-five-year-old Sharice Anderson, Chelsey's sister, suffered gunshot wounds and was taken to a hospital where she remains in stable condition.

The female victim was crowned Miss Black Teen Arizona in 2010.

Police say the suspect has been identified as 24-year-old Tyler Ruiz, who was pronounced dead at the scene from a self-inflicted gunshot wound.

Tyler and Chelsey's 19-month-old son was inside the apartment at the time of the shootings but was not injured. The infant is now in custody of family members.
