Mesa police unveil state-of-the-art mobile forensics lab

MESA, Ariz. (FOX 10) - It's a state-of-the-art forensic lab on wheels and it's now being used by the Mesa Police Department.

The lab will allow a quicker response time to crime scenes, finding evidence in the area related to internet crimes against children, and sex trafficking.

"It's really going to speed things up for us because we're going to be able to take our tools right to the scene and then bring it out to the lab where we're going to be able to develop it in a very timely basis, and hopefully use that to get our suspects in custody and speed up justice for our victims," said Jason Troth of the Mesa Police Department.

Inside the mobile lab is high-tech equipment used to tap into devices like iPhones, computers, tablets and other electronic devices, while still at a crime scene.

"Computers that are going to allow us to get that data in a fast process and also equipment that's going to harvest data from a variety of digital devices," Troth said. "Obviously these crimes are very private in their personal nature, they deal with sexually exploited images of children, so we need a space where we're not exposing people of that."
