Mesa woman accused of attacking man with a hammer on Christmas Day

MESA, Ariz. (FOX 10) -- A Mesa woman has been arrested, accused of attacking a man with a hammer on Christmas Day.

The suspect, identified as 30-year-old Jessica Julianna Ruiz-Iturbe, lived with the man for more than a year, and the incident began as an argument. According to court documents, Ruiz-Iturbe admitted throwing a Christmas tree into the kitchen, making so much noise that a neighbor called police. In the meantime, the alleged victim locked himself into the bathroom to seek shelter, but Ruiz-Iturbe was able to open the door with a key, where she then began attacking the man with a hammer.

The hammer, according to reports, struck the alleged victim twice, and the man suffered a fractured skull.

Ruiz-Iturbe is being held on a $25,000 bond.
