PHOENIX (KSAZ) - Officials with the Phoenix Zoo said Thursday night that the zoo is closed on Friday, due to the monsoon storm that battered Phoenix on on Thursday.
According to a statement released by Linda Hardwick, Phoenix Zoo Director of Communications, all animals are accounted for and safe, but there are multiple trees down, as well as flooding and debris covering several trails in the zoo.
In addition, Hardwick said the tent at the Zoo's lakeside area was destroyed, and the canopy at Stingray Bay is torn in half. The zoo is reportedly in the early phase of assessing damages.
The zoo hopes to be open by Saturday.
