Mother, 2 others arrested in the death of 3-year-old girl

Three valley women have been arrested in connection with the death of a 3-year-old girl in November.

The Pinal County Sheriff's Office tells Fox 10 that 45-year-old Shawn Main has been charged with the murder of Tiana Rosalie Capps. Capps' biological mother, 27-year-old Tina Morse, and another woman, 46-year-old Maria Tiglao, were arrested and charged with child abuse.

On November 19, deputies received a call from Main saying that she was driving the child to the hospital. Deputies met up with Main near Amarillo Valley and Century Roads, where the 911 operator told her to pull over to the side of the road.

The child was transported to a local hospital where she died. Doctors discovered the child had unexplained injuries to her head and body while they were performing life-saving measures.

When deputies went to the child's home in Maricopa, they found very poor living conditions. In addition to Tiana, three other little children, who were all malnourished, were living in the home. Deputies then contacted DCS to remove the surviving children from the home.

"The investigation has shown that the biological mother and two other women, who were supposed to be caring for these four children, failed miserably in their responsibility to protect these children from harm," Sheriff Paul Babeu said. "We discovered that all of the children suffered from abuse, the worst case resulting in the death of 3-year-old Tiana."

An autopsy performed on Tiana confirmed that she died of repeated blunt force trauma.

Main has been charged with murder and child abuse. Capps and Tiglao are facing five counts of child abuse.
