PHOENIX (FOX 10 ) - It's been a heartbreaking month for Cathy Gallegos after her son, 34-year-old Eric Hernandez, was shot and killed over a cellphone.
"It's been very devastating for me, hurtful, worrisome," Gallegos said. "[I'm] just so stressed out about this individual who hurt my son, who took his like.
The suspect was on the loose for a month until yesterday, when police arrested Keesean Jones in Gilbert.
"I had a sense of peace when I had that phone call from the detective," Gallegos said. "That just eased my hurt that he's finally been caught."
A day after the arrest, Gallegos was able to bring Hernandez's ashes home.
"I was called and was told that my son was ready to come home," Gallegos said. "So it's another blessed day, my son is home here, with us."
Hernandez leaves behind a family including two children. For Gallegos, this is the third child she's had to say goodbye to. For her son's alleged killer, Gallego had this to say:
"I pray to God that maybe one day I can forgive you. Right now I'm very angry and hurt, [and] as I know your family is hurt at this time, and I'll pray for them. And one day I'll pray for the strength for that young man to change."
