Mother, son escape from apartment fire in Phoenix

Phoenix Fire officials say six people have been displaced, as a result of an apartment fire that happened Sunday morning.

According to Cpt. Jake Van Hook, the fire happened at an apartment complex on the 6700 block of W. Indian School Road. When firefighters arrived, they found heavy fire and smoke concentrated on the patio, and fire that had already spread into the unit's interior. Firefighters, however, managed to prevent the fire, which happened on the first floor, from spreading to other units.

According to Cpt. Van Hook, an adult woman and her teenage son were inside the unit at the time of the fire, and both managed to make it out unharmed.

No firefighters were hurt during the incident, according to Cpt. Van Hook.
