National Weather Service: Tornado formed briefly near Downtown Phoenix during monsoon storm

- Officials with the National Weather Service said Thursday night that based on radar and photo evidence, a landspout tornado briefly formed in areas south of Downtown Phoenix.

Officials with the National Weather Service in Phoenix made the announcement, via a tweet made on their verified Twitter page

According to the tweet, radar image of air movement at around 5:03 p.m. indicate small, minor rotation. The last report of a tornado in the Phoenix area was on October 6, 2015, near Goodyear.
