Neighbor, firefighters mount rescue during house fire

A neighbor jumped in to help rescue a family of six from a burning home Wednesday. Firefighters also jumped in for rescue, after it became known that pets were trapped inside the home.

For Travyl Jefferson, there was no fear when it came to saving a life, so when flames took on his neighbors home and people ran out...

"I went inside after I seen the first kid come out," said Jefferson. He knew the other kids were still trapped inside.

"He was, like, 'help, help', and I knew they lived there, and I knew they be there most of the time when the neighbors are gone," said Jefferson.

Jefferson didn't think twice, and grabbed a neighbor.

"The fire was on both sides, so we ran in grabbed the kids and we left them right here in the front of the yard," said Jefferson.

Witnesses describe a fire that burned rapidly

"The whole house just started poppin' and bursting and exploding, and fire was coming from everywhere," said Dorothy Lee.

Even from next door, Lee feared for her life.

"I thought I was gonna catch on fire," said Lee. "I started waking up everybody like, 'get up! get up!'"

Firefighters fought the flames, while some ran into them to save the family's animals

"We sent a crew in. They found the kittens and were able to get them out," said Capt. Jake Van Hook with Phoenix Fire.

Crews also pulling a dog from the home. A morning that indeed could have ended differently had several heroes not played a part.

"The kids, really honestly, I didn't want them kids to get hurt," said Jefferson. "I didn't want anything to happen to those kids."
