Tempe Town Lake are holding a dedication ceremony on Saturday morning for a new dam that has been installed, and they're encouraging the public to get outdoors and enjoy the lake.

The ceremony was held at the Tempe Center for the Arts on Saturday, and the public has been invited to go out and enjoy the water activities like boating and kayaking.

While the lake was empty and a new dam was built at Tempe Town Lake, the Flood Control District of Maricopa County worked with the city of Tempe to strengthen the levees as well. An area of about 400 to 500 feet of levee had eroded, so up to a foot and a half of concrete was added to the levee. The changes are expected to help strengthen the levees for the foreseeable future.

The district helps maintain the levees that were built in cooperation with Tempe and ADOT to contain floodwaters there.
