No one injured after fire breaks out at valley motel

Isaiah Borquez and his family were asleep at the Knights Inn Motel when he heard pounding on the door and people yelling.

"Saying, 'fire, fire!'" he said. "So I stand by the door, like listening, like what's going on outside and I open the door and to my surprise, a big cloud of smoke hit me in the face and I couldn't even see across the way."

Isaiah had to act fast.

The fire sparked in a room that was vacant and had spread to another room.

"Crews got on the scene, there was heavy fire and heavy smoke showing from two units, two lower units," Capt. Dean Marquez of the Mesa Fire Department, said.

Firefighters contained the fire to these two rooms and all occupants of the motel were evacuated.

"I'm glad everyone is safe," Borquez said. "My family, I've been trying to take care of them the most I can and then this happens."

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
