Notice of Claim filed in court over alleged sexual misconduct by schoolteacher

PHOENIX (KSAZ) -- The former Valley teacher accused of having sex with a 13-year-old boy remains behind bars. Now, the boy's family is taking the first step towards a lawsuit against the school district.

Brittany Zamora has been in jail since her arrest in March, and the attorney for the victim's family says it's back to school time for most kids excited for a new year, but not for his client.

The attorney for the family of a 13-year-old boy that Zamora is accused of having sex with says the Liberty Elementary School District could have stopped the alleged sexual abuse before it happened. The family filed a notice of claim against the district, which is a precursor to a lawsuit.

The family is seeking $2.5 million. The family's attorney says a majority of the sexual activity occurred after the school was apparently alerted about an improper relationship

FOX 10 has reached out to the district's superintendent via email, but she did not have a comment about the notice of claim.

The district has 60 days to respond.
