Off-duty sheriff's deputy, woman struck by van in Cave Creek

An off-duty Maricopa County Sheriff's deputy and a woman were struck by a van just after midnight on Cave Creek Road in front of Harold's Cave Creek Corral restaurant and bar.

Officials say Sgt. Nick Schrey and his wife, Elizabeth were walking when the van collided with them as they crossed the street.

They were both transported to an area hospital. Elizabeth has life-threatening injuries and the deputy is in serious condition.

The van's driver remained at the scene. That person's name has not been released.

Although it's unclear what caused the collision, investigators do not believe alcohol or drugs had anything to do with it.

MCSO's Chris Hegstrom says this accident remains under investigation.

Family and friends of the Schreys started a GoFundMe page to help them in their time of need:
