Officer injured following early morning accident

A Phoenix police officer suffered minor injuries, after a car crash early Sunday morning.

According to police, officers responded to the 3500 block of W. VIneyard, at approximately 4:30 a.m., for a report that a car had collided with a police patrol car. The officer was reportedly completing paperwork for a vehicle tow request when he heart the other car traveling at a high rate of speed.

That car, according to police, collided into the patrol car, which was unoccupied. The officer and the witness were reportedly able to jump away, before the collision.

As a result of the crash, restrictions were in place for some time for 35th Avenue, between Vineyard and Southern.

The driver of the other car, police say, suffered serious injuries, and was taken to a hospital for treatment. The officer was also taken to the hospital, for precautionary reasons.

Police believe impairment was a factor in the incident.
