PHOENIX (KSAZ) - Officials with Phoenix police said a 27-year-old man is dead, following an officer-involved shooting Thursday afternoon.
According to a statement released by Phoenix police Thursday night, officers were sent to the 2300 block of E. Van Buren Street to contact a suspect who is reportedly wanted for probation violation. Officers, according to police, later located the suspect, and found he was armed with a handgun. Police made contact with the suspect on the second floor exterior landing, and reportedly gave verbal commands for him to drop the gun.
According to police, the man refused to comply, and pointed the gun at police. An officer then fired his service weapon, which hit the suspect. The suspect was taken to the hospital, where he later died.
No officers were injured, and police are investigating the incident.
