Officials: Red Mountain High School student brought gun to school

MESA, Ariz. (KSAZ) -- A student at Mesa's Red Mountain High School has been arrested, in connection with an incident where a gun was brought onto the school's campus.

The incident, according to Red Mountain High School Principal Jared Ryan and Mesa Police, happened on Thursday. The student, identified by Mesa Police as a 15-year-old, reportedly brought a gun to school, and the school's School Resource Officer was notified.

According to Ryan, the student brought an unloaded gun and two bullets to school, and the student showed the gun to several other students, while it was in a backpack. The gun was eventually seized.

Mesa Police officials say while no threats were made, there are some inconsistencies with the student's explanation of where the handgun came from. Meanwhile, the student has been booked on weapons misconduct-related charges, and school officials say the student will be disciplined, according to district policy.
