Cold Case: Authorities cite furniture sales rivalry in '92 killing

LEBANON, Ohio (AP) -- Authorities in southwest Ohio say a man arrested in Arizona in a homicide 23 years ago was a furniture sales competitor of the slain man.

Warren County authorities Friday said 67-year-old Sam Perone formerly operated a furniture store in Lebanon. Authorities have said 41-year-old Richard Woods had visited the store before he disappeared on Oct. 8, 1992.

The Columbus-area furniture salesman's body was found in woods near Lebanon that Nov. 9.

Prosecutor David Fornshell says authorities believe he was shot in the back of Perone's store. But Fornshell declined to discuss motive and says it will be a difficult case.

Authorities are seeking Perone's removal from Phoenix, where he was arrested. No attorney was listed for him.

Authorities indicate they used newer forensic techniques to develop evidence.
