CHANDLER, Ariz. (FOX 10) - The legendary Motown Records turned 60 earlier this year. And this weekend, there's a big Motown celebration taking place here in town.
Motown Records is known for signing some of the greatest talents we know today - Diana Ross and Stevie Wonder just to name at a few. At West Alley BBQ in Chandler, it's a celebration of the Motown legacy.
"We wanted to pay homage to the history of Motown because it's been such an integral part in the music industry and what we do here and what we do in Tennessee with the music industry back there," said Craig Kilgore, head chef and manager at West Alley BBQ.
The Tennessee-style BBQ restaurant is adding a couple of southern dishes to the menu to celebrate Motown's 60th anniversary.
"We're going to do some chicken with some black-eyed peas and collard greens," Craig said. "We're going to do our version of a Detroit Coney dog because Detroit is the home of Motown."
West Alley BBQ will offer lots of food to satisfy your cravings; however, you'd want to stick around for the music. Like their motto goes: Come for the food, stay for the entertainment.
"We want people to come out and enjoy themselves and after they're done having a nice meal, we'll clear some room out on the mean floor and let people get up and dance," Craig said. "That's what it's all about - having fun."
Detroit-born artist Sandra Bassett and her band September Soul will perform Motown much each night through Sunday.
"Motown music bridges many gaps and brings people together," Sandra said.
