OLMOST THE WEEKEND: Tamale Festival returns to Downtown Phoenix

PHOENIX (KSAZ) -- People can try all kinds of Tamales this weekend, as the annual Tamale Festival is about to get underway.

Food City will be hosting the 17th edition of the annual festival in Downtown Phoenix.

"It's become such a popular event that it's a culinary festival," said Susy Ferra with Food City.

As a result of the event, Washington Street will be closed, between 1st and 4th Avenues. Over 50 vendors will be at the event.

"The majority of the tamale vendors come through churches or organizations that look forward to this annual event by being able to raise money," said Ferra.

Tamales will be sold $2 a piece, or $18 for the dozen. Along with food, there will also be live entertainment, and arts and crafts for the kids. There will also be a Tamale competition that is set to take place on Sunday, where 13 vendors will compete for new furniture and appliances.
