2 teens killed in crash involving semi-truck along Beeline Highway

- Authorities say two teens were killed after a semi-truck ran a red light and hit their vehicle along the Beeline Highway on Tuesday night.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety says the semi-truck was traveling southbound on State Route 87 when it ran a red light and struck a vehicle heading from eastbound Shea Boulevard onto northbound SR 87.

After the collision, the semi-truck went into the median, pushing the passenger vehicle in front of it. Both vehicles then exited into the northbound lanes of SR 87 and hit two other vehicles.

The semi-truck then rolled over and spilled its load of lumber.

A 15-year-old boy died at the scene and a 14-year-old girl was transpoted to a nearby hospital where she later died.

Five other people were transported to nearby hospitals with unknown injuries.

The investigation into the crash is ongoing.

The roadway was reopened just after 4 a.m. on Wednesday.
