CHINO VALLEY, Ariz. (FOX 10) — A 16-year-old girl has died after being shot in the head east of Chino Valley, police say.
The victim was shot near mile marker 12 on Perkinsville Road, according to the Yavapai County Sheriff's Office.
Deputies arrested Johnathan Rice, 19, and charged him with second-degree murder.
According to investigators, a group of people drove out to an area off Perkinsville Rd. to have a party and drink alcohol. Rice had a revolver he was randomly firing. The group was in the bed of a truck at one point when Rice fired a round striking 16-year-old Aneesa Williams in the head.
YCSO says an off-duty police officer was by the scene and was able to contact the sheriff's department. He had to drive a distance to make the call due to poor service, which deputies say delayed the response.
The investigation is still underway.
