3-year-old girl, woman die in head-on crash

A 3-year-old child and the driver of a car have died following a two-car crash in Phoenix on Monday night.

The Phoenix Police Department says the 3-year-old girl was a passenger in a Honda Civic that was driven by 24-year-old Karimahi Overstreet. The Civic was traveling eastbound on Baseline Road when it struck a curb, drove onto a sidewalk and then drifted into the westbound lanes of Baseline near 19th Avenue.

The Civic then hit a Buick Enclave head-on. Overstreet was pronounced dead at the scene last night and the 3-year-old died on Tuesday morning.

The driver of the Buick is in serious condition and will not face any charges.

Police say it's unknown what caused Overstreet to strike the curb and drift into the westbound lanes and this part of the investigation will be turned over to the medical examiner.

Baseline was closed from 19th to 21st Avenues for several hours after the collision occurred at 8 p.m.
