GLENDALE, Ariz. (KSAZ) - Update (May 22, 2017): Glendale Police have identified the officer and the person who died, in connection with an incident that led to an officer-involved shooting Friday.
According to a statement released Monday, officer Andrew Johnson was heading south of N. 63rd Avenue when he came across an incident on the 5500 block of N. 63rd Avenue. At the scene, Johnson saw four black men fighting along the side of the road, and as Johnson pulled up, he heard two shots fired.
Police said one of the four men involved in the fight, identified as 18-year-old Jayden Young, had pulled out a handgun and began firing at two of the other black men, and Johnson returned fire for the safety of the victims. Young, according to police, ran north, and continued to fire his weapon at the other men. He was later struck by gunfire.
Two men, according to police, stayed on scene, and one suffered life-threatening injuries as a result of gunshot wounds. That person was taken to a local hospital, where he is in critical condition, as of Monday.
According to an investigation, one of the suspect, identified as a 17-year-old black male, fled of foot, and Young fled north on a silver car that was previously reported stolen. The suspect who ran east was later taken into custody, but Young crashed into the front yard of a home near the 5700 block of N, 63rd Avenue. Young later went into a backyard, and was found dead.
According to police, Young did suffer from a gunshot wound. Further results are pending a report by the Medical Examiners. As for the officer, he was not injured.

At least one person is dead, after an incident that involved two separate scenes and a shootout that involved an officer.
It all began when an officer driving through a neighborhood Friday afternoon saw four people fighting. According to police, the incident happened at the 5000 block of N. 63rd Avenue, and as the officer approached the men, they stopped fighting for a brief period. As the officer continued to approach, one of the men allegedly pulled out a handgun, and began firing in the direction of the officer, and two of the other men.
The officer, according to police, returned fire, and fired off a few rounds as two of the suspects fled the scene. One reportedly suffered life threatening injuries as a result of the shooting.
Police say the other suspect who took off later got in a stolen car, and drove a quarter mile down the road, and then crashed into a wall. That person was reportedly found dead in a nearby backyard with gunshot wounds.
No officers were hurt, and an investigation is ongoing.
