Payson community gathers to hold vigil for family that died in flash flood


The Tonto National Forest officials say areas where 10 people died last Saturday due to a flash flood will be closed down. 

The areas along the east Verde River and tributary creek will be closed to the public until August 31st.           

The closed sites will be- First Crossing, Water Wheel, Second Crossing, Third Crossing and Cold Springs Trailhead. 

Tonight, people gathered to remember the 10 people who died last week during the flash flood near Payson. 

They came together tonight at Green Valley Park for a concert and vigil...           

The John Caprino band played for the crowd.           

14 people were at the Water Wheel Recreation Center to celebrate a birthday.... when without warning a wall of water swept through the area taking with it the entire group. 

Only four people survived.           


A candlelight vigil was held for the victims after the concert.
