PD: 1 dead, 8 injured following 3-vehicle crash near 7th Ave. and Baseline in Phoenix

PHOENIX (FOX 10) - Phoenix Police are investing a serious crash involving three vehicles that left one person dead and eight others injured.

The incident happened near 7th Avenue and Baseline Saturday morning.

Police say a Passat, driven by a 21-year-old female, failed to stop at a stop sign and turned right onto Baseline colliding with a Chevy Impala, driven by a 24-year-old male. The Impala then hit a Chevy Tahoe, driven by a 48-year-old male.

A total of nine people were taken to the hospital, seven of which were in the Passat.

Police confirm that one of the passengers in the Passat, Jessica Mendoza, 21, died. She was in the back seat with four other passengers believed to not have been wearing a seatbelt.

"The investigation is on-going," said Sgt. Jamie Rothschild with the Phoenix Police Department. "We don't know what led up to this accident truly at this point, but what we do know is there may be community members who have information who can help us."

The investigation is ongoing but impairment is suspected to be a factor. If anyone has information, you're asked to call police.
