PHOENIX, Ariz. (KSAZ) -- Police say a known gang member has been arrested after he tried to slash a woman with a knife in downtown Phoenix.
Officers booked 39-year-old Michael Juan on two felony counts, including aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.
Investigators say he tried to slash a woman early Saturday morning in the area of 7th and Roosevelt Streets.
That woman tells Fox 10 Phoenix she was walking with a friend, when Juan cat-called them. She says they turned down his advances -- and that's when he apparently became violent.
Police took Juan into custody a couple of blocks away. They say he had a folding knife with a blade approximately four-inches in length.
The woman gave a Victim Impact Statement during Juan's initial court appearance.
"I'm asking that you not let this gentleman out, as he's been in my neighborhood threatening people with his knife for months and has no care for the law," she said. "He made sure to let me know that he didn't care if I called the cops because he didn't have a life, so it didn't matter to him if he got arrested. He clearly has no respect for people and the law and he's dangerous. And I don't want to run into him again.”
A judge set a $50,000 secured appearance bond for Juan.
Police say Juan is a member of the Eastside 9th Street Gang.
