PD: Man arrested in connection with attempted sexual assault on teen girl in open field

PHOENIX, Ariz. (KSAZ) - Phoenix Police have arrested a man in connection with an alleged attempted sexual assault on a teenage girl in an open field last month.

Police arrested Stefan Sleeper, 22, and booked him on charges of sexual assault, kidnapping and robbery.

After an investigation, officers identified Sleeper as the suspect in an unrelated strong armed robbery that happened at a business on W. Southern Avenue, where he's accused of pushing a store employee and stealing merchandise.

According to police, the attempted sexual assault happened at the end of October on Vineyard Road in Phoenix.

Investigators say the 13-year-old was walking with her eight-year-old brother in the area when they were confronted by the Sleeper. He suspect then asked for assistance in locating someone in the neighborhood, and eventually was able to separate the victim from her brother.

The attempted sexual assault was later interrupted by a passer-by, and the Sleeper fled.
