Peoria firefighter honored with Medal of Valor for bravery

A Peoria firefighter was honored for his bravery, after a call to a Peoria home that was set on fire after a home invasion.

On Tuesday, President Donald Trump recognized Peoria Fire Department engineer Stephen Gunn with a Public Safety Medal of Valor for his heroism and bravery.

"I never would have imagined that it got to this level," said Gunn, in a prior interview with FOX 10 Phoenix. "It's still kind of surreal."

On Tuesday, Gunn's story of bravery was laid out for the nation. Gun, a husband and father of two, received the medal at the White House.

"As flames engulfed the home, Engineer Gunn charged inside to save an unconscious man," said President Trump. "Within seconds, Stephen's helmet began to melt, and his skin began to burn."

"There were three other guys on that truck with me that night, and we all had a different role or responsibility on this particular call," said Gunn. "If those roles or responsibilities had gone to anyone else, they would've done the same exact thing."
