PEORIA, Ariz. (FOX 10) -- Peoria Police officials say the suspect in an officer-involved shooting that happened on March 27 has been booked into the 4th Avenue Jail on aggravated assault charges.
According to a statement issued Tuesday afternoon, the suspect, identified as 23-year-old Samuel Denk of Peoria, was released from the hospital on Tuesday, and subsequently arrested by detectives.
According to a statement released on March 28, the incident happened at around 10:50 p.m. on March 27 in the area of 83rd Avenue and West Cholla Street. The police officer involved in the shooting, identified as a Peoria Police sergeant, was conducting a traffic stop at the time. Based on preliminary information, during the encounter the officer had with the suspect, the suspect reached for a gun that was in his lap. The sergeant then fired at least one round, striking the suspect in the face. The suspect was then taken into custody by the sergeant.
An investigation is ongoing.
