Phelps makes a splash at ASU meet

We last saw Olympian Michael Phelps as part of the "curtain of distraction" at the ASU game. Saturday he was in a more serious mood as he swam in some exhibit heats during an ASU meet. The 22-time Olympic gold medalist was one of the Olympians swimming in exhibition events during 15 and 20-minute breaks during the Sun Devils' senior day meet.

Phelps, along with Olympic medalist Alison Schmidt, joined the meet against rival school University of Arizona. Phelps says, "Today was really cool because there were so many people here that were supporting us as pros, but also supporting the university."

"I was talking to some of the athletes," Phelps continues, "And they were saying that they'd never seen the stands that packed for a swim meet, so I think there's a lot of excitement that is going on right now around the swim team... the team has gotten so much better really just over the last couple of months. I think it's a great transition into the future. It's not at every meet do we get a bunch of little kids that are here and that are excited. for me, that's the most exciting part, being able to put a real smile on a kid's face."
