The trial continues for former Mesa Police officer Philip Brailsford, who is accused of shooting and killing an unarmed man.

On Thursday, the woman who was with Daniel Shaver during the deadly police confrontation last year took the stand.

Monica Portillo was staying at the same hotel, and on the same floor as Shaver. She said, they met less than an hour before she watched him die.

Portillo said Shaver invited her and her co-worker, Luis Nunez, into his room for drinks. Portillo said she sat on the bed as the two men played with Shaver's pellet rifle, looking through the scope.

That was when Portillo voiced her concerns.

"There's people downstairs, so I was like, 'hey you guys, don't be so close to the window. People might get the wrong idea,'" said Portillo

That is what happened.

Someone called police, and Brailsford was one of the officers who responded to the call.

Eventually, Nunez left the room. About 10 minutes later, Shaver's room phone rang, and he answered it.

"He was, like, puzzled by it," said Portillo. "You have to step outside, I was like, OK, he said the Mesa Police want you to step outside."

Portillo said they did not hear an officer yelling commands, before the phone call.

'They were just all in black, and they had their guns pointed at me," said Portillo.

She followed their commands, and was handcuffed. Then, she watched as officers dealt with Shaver.

"As he was crawling, I guess his shorts were falling down because of the material they were, basketball shorts. Try to crawl with your hand this way. He had a reaction, tried to pull up his shorts. Then they...they shot him," said Portillo.

Brailsford was the only officer in the group who opened fire on Shaver, allegedly shooting him five times.

Brailsford, who is facing a charge of Second Degree Murder, faces up to 25 years in prison, if convicted.
