Phoenix couple welcomes New Year's baby

At seven pounds, 11 ounces and 21 inches tall, the world welcomed healthy Baby Emma when the clock struck midnight early this morning.

"I thought she was going to come before," Daisy said. "I was hoping for before, actually."

Because when mom, Daisy, and dad, Marcelo, of Phoenix first found out they were pregnant, their doctor told them their due date was January 1.

There's a 50 percent chance that the baby will actually be born on that day, so when the couple got to Banner Estrella Medical Center at 8 a.m. yesterday, they couldn't believe they were about to have a New Year's baby.

Emma is their first baby and for Daisy, it was a natural birth.

"Just a personal choice," she said. "I just wanted the experience. I know that you never know what's going to happen in the end, but we tried and we made it."

A healthy baby girl to welcome in 2018, and as for birthdays to come...

"We have huge families, so she's going to be super special for the families," Daisy said. "Extra cake, extra parties."

In a few years, they say there will be baby number two.

"What holiday are you aiming for that time?" I asked.

"Maybe not Christmas... kids don't really like that," Daisy replied.
