PHOENIX (KSAZ) - Two people are dead following a crash involving three cars at a Phoenix intersection late Wednesday morning.
According to a statement released by Sgt .Jonathan Howard with Phoenix police, officers responded to a crash at 9:45 a.m., near the 6500 block of W. Thomas Road. Officers later determined that two cars heading in opposite directions collided head on.
The driver of one of the vehicles, identified by police as 57-year-old Josephine Saldana, along with a 43-year-old male passenger in the second car, were both taken to local hospitals where they later died. The driver of the second car, identified as a 34-year-old woman, suffered critical injuries.
A third car, according to police, was also hit. The driver of that car, identified as a 37-year-old woman, along with a 22-year-old female passenger, were taken to local hospitals with serious, but non-life threatening injuries.
The cause of the crash, according to Phoenix police, is still under investigation.
NOTE: An earlier version of the story identified the passenger in the third car as a juvenile female, based on information provided by Phoenix police. Police later said the juvenile is actually an adult. They story has been updated to reflect the updated information.
