PHOENIX (KSAZ) - Phoenix Fire officials say workers have safely removed the drill rig in Monday's incident from the collapsed hole.
According to Cpt. Larry Subervi, the removal process involved the use of two large cranes, one rated at 550,000 lbs and the other rated at 300,000 lbs. The cranes have since been disassembled and removed from the collapse site, as the weight posed a risk to workers during the recovery process.
Cpt. Subervi said a vacuum truck has been brought in to remove dirt, with the truck being operated remotely from a ladder bucket of a ladder truck, to give the operators the best chance at locating the victim. Operations are expected to resume at 7:00 a.m. Wednesday.
Earlier on Tuesday, fire officials say the process could take a few days.
