Family of 4 assisted down Echo Canyon Trail after running out of water

Officials with the Phoenix Fire Department said Monday afternoon that fire crews had to assist a family of four down Echo Canyon Trail on Monday.

According to a statement, an adult man and his children were out on the trail for three hours. The family reportedly hiked to the summit, and then ran out of water on their way down.

After regular hikers reported to park rangers that the family were out of water and looked tired, one of them headed up the trail with a lot of water to assist the family and evaluate them. That ranger later called 911. The man and his children, identified as four, eight, and 10 years of age, were reportedly able to walk on their own.

According to the statement, the family is from out of town, and this was the second rescue incident involving minors. The other incident involved two minors, ages 12 and 16.
