Phoenix mother arrested, charged with child abuse

A valley mother was arrested over the weekend and charged with child abuse.

Phoenix police tell Fox 10 that officers responded to an apartment at 4829 N. 37th Avenue after receiving reports of a man with a knife.

After arriving at the apartment, officers discovered there was no armed man at the apartment, but they discovered that 27-year-old Alejandrina Flores and her six children were living in deplorable condition.

Officers say the six children, who range in ages from a few months to 6-years-old, were living in an apartment with a very strong odor of "decomposing trash and food" and an infestation of cockroaches throughout the apartment.

The children were all very dirty and were playing with a pair of scissors when the officers were at the apartment.

Due to the conditions of the apartment, Flores was taken into custody and charged with child abuse.

The Department of Child Safety took custody of all six children after Flores' arrest.
