PHOENIX (FOX 10) -- Phoenix Police officials say 45 cats and dogs have been seized from a shelter on Wednesday.
According to police officials, Phoenix Police officers and officials with the Arizona Humane Society responded to the shelter, located on the 2000 block of S. 19th Avenue, at around 11:15 a.m. in reference to a welfare check on several animals. When officers and investigators arrived at the scene, they found that many of the cats and dogs had not received medical treatments, and are not being cared for.
According to officials with the Arizona Humane Society, 23 dogs and 22 cats are in their care, and the animals are suffering from various medical conditions, such as dental disease, suspected mange and ringworm. In addition, some of the cats are suffering from upper respiratory infection and ocular discharge.
An investigation is ongoing.
