Phoenix police investigate officer-involved shooting; 1 dead in west Phoenix

- Police say a 27-year-old man is dead after a shootout with two officers near the area of 59th Avenue and Thomas Road.

According to Phoenix Police Sgt. Alan Pfohl, a resident called police saying there was a couple arguing in the street. When the police arrive, the suspect started running down Mulberry Drive while pointing a gun at officers.

One officer fired his weapon at the suspect as he continued to point his weapon at both officers. A second officer also returned fire.

As the suspect reached a driveway in the neighborhood, he turned and fired his gun at the officer. Both officers returned fire, once more, and the suspect was announced dead at the scene.

Detectives recovered a black semi-automatic handgun from the scene.

No officers were injured. The two officers involved were a 38-year-old with 17 years of service, and a 34-year-old with 10 years of service.
