Phoenix Police investigate officer-involved shooting; suspect in custody

- Phoenix police say a suspect is injured and in custody following a shooting involving officers and that the incident occurred as firefighters responded to a house fire near 24th Street and Osborn on Wednesday morning.

"The homeowner called us and said she had two fires in her backyard -- her patio and her side home. When the officers arrived.. they were confronted by a man next door with a gun and a knife. The officers got into a shooting with that man," explained Sgt. Jonathan Howard of the Phoenix Police Department.

"Firefighters have also transported an adult male with a gunshot wound to Maricopa County Trauma Center," added Captain Jake Van Hook of the Phoenix Fire Department.

Howard says no officers were injured. 

Officials say the suspect remains in serious condition. His name has not been released.

Southbound 24th Street was closed during the incident.

The investigation continues.
