Police: Suspect shot by officer in Phoenix

Phoenix police say a 35-year-old suspect was shot by an officer at an apartment complex on Monday afternoon.

According to Sgt. Vince Lewis, the shooting happened near Seventh Street and Greenway Parkway when officers responded an apartment for reports of shots fired.

When officers approached the apartment, police say the suspect opened the door and pointed a gun at an officer.

The officer commanded the suspect to drop his gun. The suspect refused to do so and charged at the officer, who then shot the suspect.

The suspect was taken to a nearby hospital and is expected to survive his injuries. Police say he will likely be booked into jail.

His identity has not been released.
