Phoenix Police looking for suspect who stole copper wire from a building

The Phoenix Police are hoping the public can help them find a brazen copper wire thief.

The guy ripped the wire from outside a building in broad daylight in May.

In the video, the man parks his silver SUV behind a business near 19th Avenue and Peoria.

He quickly walks over to the side and begins pulling wire right off the building. And then you can see him winding up all the wire as he's walking back to his car.

Police estimate he caused $3,000 to $5,000 in damage.

"When this guy goes up to the businesses and he starts to pull the wire out of the wall, it doesn't only result in the business owner having to repair the wall, it's the damage that's caused ripping those out of the wall," said Sgt. Jaime Rothschild with Silent Witness.

Police suspect the guy might be trying to resale the wire.

"Why did this guy steal these wires? We he looking to use them for personal use or turn around and sell them, and if he was going to sell them, maybe somebody that he was selling them to has information about who he is that will help us," Rothschild said.
