PHOENIX (FOX 10) -- Phoenix Police officials say they have arrested a man, in connection with a deadly car vs. pedestrian crash late Tuesday night.,
According to a statement released by Sgt. Vince Lewis, 20-year-old Zachary Showers has been booked into jail, and is facing charges of manslaughter, endangerment, and leaving the scene of a fatal collision. The incident happened on the 3700 block of E. McDowell Road, and investigators have determined that the pedestrian, identified as 35-year-old Thomas Taraba, was walking east on a sidewalk along McDowell Road with one other person when a Chevrolet Aveo that was heading east drove onto the sidewalk, striking Taraba.
Following the incident, Phoenix Police officials said Showers continued to head east in his car, and abandoned his car near the 4200 block of E. McDowell. Taraba was declared dead, after he was taken to a hospital. Showers later returned to the scene, and showed signs of impairment.
