Phoenix Police: man dead following crash involving semi-truck

PHOENIX (KSAZ) -- Phoenix Police officials say a man is dead, following a crash involving a pedestrian and a semi truck on Friday night.

Police identify the victim as Michael Olsen, 48.

According to a statement released by Sgt. Mercedes Fortune, the incident took place in an area of 51st Avenue just south of I-10 East. Officers were called to the area at around 7:10 p.m. for the crash. According to witnesses, Olsen, who was walking, was struck by an unknown semi truck while on 51st Avenue. The truck did not stop after the crash.

Olsen, according to Sgt. Fortune, was declared dead at the scene. Police did not provide a description for the semi.
